Our children's sessions are designed to give young people a real experience of working with clay — not a simplified version of it. From their first pinch pot to throwing on the wheel, every session is led by a tutor who knows how to get the best out of young makers.
We run regular after-school and weekend sessions, holiday workshops and one-off taster days. All materials, tools and firings are included. Children take home their finished, glazed work.
Ages 8–16
Throwing on the wheel.
One of the most satisfying things a young person can do with their hands. Children learn to centre, open and pull clay on the wheel — a skill that takes patience and practice, and rewards both. Sessions are kept small so every child gets proper time at the wheel.

Term-time courses
Four-week programmes
After-school clay — five days a week, every week.
Our after-school programmes run Monday to Friday at 16:30 and are grouped by age so every child works with peers at a similar stage. Each class runs for one hour and follows a four-week block — three making sessions and a dedicated glaze week where pieces are decorated and prepared for the kiln.
Each block is a complete journey: a handbuilt project to get hands into clay, a sculptural piece to explore form and imagination, a wheel or surface session depending on age group, and a glaze week to finish and fire everything made. Every child goes home with real, fired work at the end of each block.
Life happens — children can miss up to two sessions in any four-week block without losing their place. We'll make sure they're caught up when they return.

Monday · Ages Boys
Boys Club
A space designed to bring boys out of themselves. Clay has a way of unlocking creativity in children who might not naturally gravitate towards art — this class meets them where they are and lets the making do the talking.

Teens & Double Digits
For older children who want to work alongside peers at a similar stage. A more focused, less chaotic energy — serious about making, but never without fun. A place to develop real skill and find your own voice in clay.

Wonderful Wednesdays
More than just clay — this is a multidisciplinary session of exploration with a hard focus on making. Children move between materials, ideas and techniques, always returning to clay as the anchor. Curious, tactile and genuinely wonderful.

Tots
For the little ones — and for those who need a gentler pace. A calm, nurturing session where anxious or younger children can settle into clay at their own speed. No pressure, no rush, just hands in clay and room to grow.

Funsterz!
A wild ride into the world of creative clay. Friday energy, Friday ambition — this session throws the rulebook out and lets imagination lead. Loud, joyful and completely unpredictable. The perfect end to the school week.

What to expect
All abilities welcome
No experience needed. Our tutors are used to working with complete beginners and children who have been coming for years.
Small groups
Sessions are kept small so every child gets proper attention and time at the wheel or bench.
Everything included
Clay, tools, glazes and all firings are included in the session price. Nothing extra to buy.
Take it home
Finished, kiln-fired pieces are ready to collect within two weeks of the glaze session.
Safe and supervised
All tutors are DBS checked. The studio is a safe, calm and creative environment for young people.
Genuinely creative
We follow a structured programme but there is always room for individual ideas. Children are encouraged to make it their own.

The pottery party they will actually remember.
Children's pottery parties at Clay & Craft are run by our tutors, not handed over to parents. We take care of everything — the clay, the glazing, the firing and the finished pieces to take home. You bring the cake.
